CHILMARK — The Up Island Council on Aging directed its strategic plan committee to address facility improvements at Howes House. An elevator at the facility, though certified, frequently got stuck and remained unusable for seniors. Director Bethany Hammond announced that staff member Jennie would take medical leave beginning April 28 for approximately six weeks, creating a need for roughly 200 hours of volunteer coverage.
Hammond was pursuing a SNAP outreach partnership and applying for Massachusetts Council on Aging grants for transportation and food programs. The board would finalize the strategic plan at its May 5 meeting. Two fundraisers were scheduled: May 5 at Offshore Ale Restaurant and June 22 at the PA Club.
