CHILMARK — The Select Board and Finance Committee held a joint FY27 budget hearing on January 28. County Manager Martina Thornton requested Chilmark establish a separate $23,351 budget line for veterans services, moving it from the county assessment. The county also sought to increase homeless services funding from $7,000 to $10,000.
Municipal departments presented FY27 funding requests: Tax Collector Jessica Bradlee asked for $400 in additional postage; Assessors requested 8 additional administrative hours while eliminating a temporary position; and the Up Island Council on Aging Director Bethanie Hammond, with Chilmark board member Paul Bailey, proposed salary increases and expanded staffing for kitchen, outreach, and assistant director roles.
