Select Board · Meeting of October 6, 2026
Chilmark Select Board advanced a water taxi proposal and adopted emergency management coordination. The board voted unanimously to authorize Town Administrator Timothy R. Carroll to work with Aquinnah and proposer Hugh Taylor on drafting a service agreement for a 50-foot vessel carrying 40 passengers between Menemsha and New Bedford, with potential operations beginning in 2027.
The board also unanimously approved in concept a Martha's Vineyard Island-Wide Emergency Management plan for 2027-2031, pending financing and governance details; the plan calls for hiring a full-time coordinator at approximately $150,000 annually with benefits. The board placed a regional high school debt exclusion on the April 2027 ballot and unanimously approved bay scallop and oyster season openings.
