CHILMARK — Select Board and Planning Board jointly discussed a cell tower zoning bylaw amendment intended for spring 2027 Annual Town Meeting. Chair Jeffrey Maida outlined consulting the Coast Guard about a shared tower on town-owned land, with options including a single 165-foot tower or two towers at locations like Peaked Hill and Aquinnah. Member Rebecca Haag recommended heights of 155 to 160 feet and suggested consulting experts on tower height's impact on emergency services.
Public members emphasized comprehensive coverage in areas currently without service. Vice Chair Matthew Poole identified key elements as height, location flexibility, and lease term. The boards voted unanimously to continue development at an August 24 meeting, with member Haag offering to prepare a draft.
