CHILMARK — Schools presented FY27 budgets to Chilmark boards, with education accounting for 80 percent of town spending growth. Chilmark School Principal Kate Squire reported 74 current students and a preschool opening September 2026; the school's budget includes increased PFAS water testing and cybersecurity spending. High School Interim Principal Sean Mulvey outlined a 5.17 percent increase to MVRHS's FY27 budget, representing 7 percent of Chilmark's assessment, eliminating a $125,000 administrator position and cutting $7,500 from athletic supplies.

Superintendent Richie Smith noted the overall 7.73 percent increase is driven by collective bargaining agreements with teachers and announced his retirement after 24 years on Martha's Vineyard and 38 years in education. The Select Board unanimously approved the Slavin affordable homesite transfer.
